True Freedom

Have you watched any of the videos of Nick Vujicic? He is a motivational speaker, author and more importantly a follower of Christ. His life is an inspiration to all people who have heard his testimony. Born without arms and legs, Nick Vujicic exhibited a life without limitation. He is able to accomplish a lot of things that a regular person couldn’t do in a day and even possibly in a lifetime. The big difference that Nick has from both believers and non-believers is the freedom that he has attained through Jesus Christ. The love of Jesus is so alive in him that it is reflected in the way he lives. So, as believers, what are the things we can do in order to live a life of true freedom?

  1. Strengthen yourself with God’s word

When we feel weak and unable to face the challenges of our lives, we feel like prisoners of our own made up world. But if we regularly read God’s word, we are reminded of the strength we already have through God. It says in Psalm 46:1-3 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

  1. Live a fearless life

Fear is one of the biggest barrier to freedom. When we’re afraid, it feels like we are slaves to something or someone. But God doesn’t want us to live in fear, rather, He wants us to live with much love. In 1 John 4:18 it says, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

  1. Don’t believe the lies

When our minds are not guarded, false thoughts come to us. Lies that make us belittle ourselves and doubt God’s promises to our lives. But we should remember that, in God, whatever mistakes we committed in the past are forgiven. The truth about our freedom can only come from God. In  Romans 8:1-4 it says, “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

  1. Understand true freedom

To be truly free means to live a life full of love for God and other people. It means not surrendering to our old nature. It says in 1 Peter 2:16-17, “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.  Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”
