Top 10 Youth Group Albums

Top 10 Youth Group Albums

Since the invention of the Youth Group, there have been countless bands and recording artists who have inspired us during our teenage years.

Here is our INDISPUTABLE list of the top 10 most influential youth group albums (this is the definitive list, there is no dispute):

10. Hawk Nelson – Smile, It’s the End of the World
Pre-deconstruction OG Hawk Nelson was some good Christian music to jam to on the way to the lock-in.

9. Underøath – Define the Great Line
This was the album you showed your unbelieving high school friends to try to convince them that you were cool.

8. Lecrae – Rehab
What the “urban missions” team listened to on repeat so they could say they “listened to rap music too” lol but seriously, OG Lecrae is untouched. Reminds us of Jesus is King version Kanye.

7. Family Force 5 – Business Up Front / Party in the Back
I don’t think any other Christian music had this much swag tbh. This is the album they played during dodgeball and everyone needed to drink 3 cans of Mountain Dew just to keep up with the raw adrenaline of FF5

6. Hillsong United – United We Stand
Basically every track of this was sung (and still is) during worship time at youth. Listen to “The Stand” one time and try to keep your hands down, I’m sorry, you can’t.

5. Switchfoot – The Beautiful Letdown
Another “too cool to be Christian” album that you showed your high school friends.  It’s like the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” of Christian music.  So good.

4. Relient K – MMHMM
It is physically impossible to hear the opening to “Be My Escape” without doing a dance like a Charlie Brown character. It’s science.

3. TobyMac – Portable Sounds
When someone asked Toby what genre his music is he said, “Yes.”

2. Skillet – Awake
The most Xtreme Christian music you could listen to as a kid without getting called a satanist by your mom. How many music videos did you make with this album and why are they all still on YouTube?

1. DC Talk – Jesus Freak
This is it. The peak of 90s Christian music and by 90s I mean ALL TIME Christian music.  These based kings really said, “I don’t really care if they label me a Jesus Freak, there ain’t no disguising the truth.”  You can’t get more Giga Chad than that.
