Setting Godly goals

Goal setting is one of the most important aspect of the life of a believer. It starts with understanding God’s vision for your life. It says in Proverbs 29:18, “If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.” We all want God’s blessings for our lives. But for us to receive these blessings, our goals must be aligned with His. Here are examples of goals that are consistent with what God wants for His sons and daughters:

  1. Putting God first

In every plan that we have for our lives, we have to put God first. Every worry or problem should be surrendered to Him first. We can do this by praying in the morning before we go to work or school and praying at night before we go to bed. He shouldn’t be the least of our priorities. We must have full dependence on Him. It says in Proverbs 3:6,  “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success”

  1. Become a person of integrity

Being a person of integrity means doing the right thing whether you’re seen or not. We have to strive for integrity in everything that we do because it’s God who we represent. It says in Proverbs 11:3, “The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.” Living our lives with integrity promises blessings that only God can provide.

  1. Be the kind of friend you’d like to have

We all want to have loyal and trustworthy friends. But we must always remember that we should first be loyal and trustworthy ourselves. It says in Luke 6:31, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

  1. Be teachable

A humble person is open to new lessons from other people and life in general. If we show humility to others, we give them permission to teach us things we don’t know making us grow in the process. It says in Proverbs 9:9, “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning”

  1. Be fearless

When we have a goal that we want to achieve, fear sometimes hinder us from getting it. We must remember that we are sons and daughters of a living God. Fear shouldn’t cripple us. When we’re scared, we must hold on to God all the more. It says in 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”

  1. Leave a legacy

What do we want to leave this world after we’re gone? We all want to leave earth a better place. We must not tire in doing good if we want to leave a lasting legacy. It says in Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
