Rediscovering God’s purpose for your life

As Christians, we come to a point in our lives when we say to ourselves, “I don’t know what to do with my life anymore”. We come to this point because we have either disconnected from God or we are facing a new season in our lives. The only solution is to reconnect with God by following these steps in re-discovering God’s purpose for our lives.

Pray to get clarity and direction

Only through prayer and reading the bible will we be able to rediscover God’s purpose for our lives. In Psalm 119:105 it says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path". Through God’s word, we gain understanding as to where our life’s choices have brought us and we are then able to find a new direction for our lives.

Write down God’s message

After reading the bible, we should write down the message we received from God. Writing down the message reinforces what it means for us. In Jeremiah 30:2 it says, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.”

Take the necessary action steps to fulfill the purpose

After writing down the message, apply them to your life. Identify the smallest steps you have to take in order to live out your life’s purpose. In John 13:17 it says,  “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” It’s not enough to know your purpose or to receive a message from God, we have to take action to fulfill what He wants us to do.

Develop an accountability team

As Christians, we have our small groups that help us grow spiritually. Ask the help of your small group to make sure that you’re able to commit to your purpose everyday of your life. It says in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them”

Move in the vision’s direction but be aware of God’s red light

As you take your step daily in order to fulfill your purpose, there will come a time when you’ll be forced to pause or stop. Don’t resist it. You’ll eventually see that it’s an important part of the journey. In Ezekiel 3:17-19 it says, “Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.” The red light is like a warning from God that you shouldn’t continue with the path you’re currently taking.

Refine as you get more insight.

As you take a pause, continue to get a message from God by reading your bible and praying. Through bible reading, God can guide you on what steps you need to take next. In Psalm 25:4-5 it says, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
