As humans, we love to have some form of control in the different aspects of our lives. This is why we plan. We are told that if we put our mind into something, we’ll be able to accomplish it, no matter what. Although these are helpful, we also know that things don’t always go as planned. And whenever our plans fail, we feel unfulfilled, anxious, sad, and even angry. So the bible teaches us to put our trust in God. Here are some ways we can let go of our control over our lives and let God take charge:
Obey His word
When God tells us to do something, obedience is very important. He demands full obedience so we shouldn’t try to find the middle ground between God’s will and our current desire. We hinder God’s blessing to our lives when we disobey. He is faithful so we must obey.
Don’t compare yourself to others
When we compare ourselves to other people and we see them doing better than we are in the different aspects of their lives, we begin to doubt God’s goodness to our lives. Os Hillman, president of Marketplace Leaders, an organization whose purpose is to help people discover and complete God’s purpose through their work, said “God has called us to a unique life that may look totally different from anyone else’s life. Once we begin to compare ourselves to others, we begin to live for others and ourselves.”
Trust God’s ability to take care of you
When things don’t go as planned, we feel anxious. Our minds and hearts are not at peace. But it says in His word, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust that God will take care of your needs at the moment you need them. He is always faithful.
Choose to walk with God always
If we want to walk with God all the days of our lives, we must make it a habit to read the bible. It says in 2 Timothy 3: 16-17, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.” Together with bible reading, we must also regularly pray. It says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.”
Enjoy God’s gift of life
As we obey God’s word, stop comparing ourselves to others, trust His ability to take care of us and choose to walk with Him all throughout our days, we open ourselves to a life of joy and peace. God wants us to enjoy our lives to the fullest. It says in Psalms 37:4, “Delight yourself also in the LORD: and he shall give you the desires of your heart.”
